Writer's picture: Steven KentSteven Kent

Newcastle Knights Co-Captain Jayden Brailey suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during non-contact training last Saturday. We detail his injury mechanism, likely surgical technique, and time to return to play. We also outline if the Achilles Tendon Injury will impact his performance on his return based on data from NFL players injuries (no data has been collected on NRL or rugby league players as yet).

Achilles tendon injuries are career ending for up to a 1/3 of NFL & NBA players, with an average time to return to play of around 11 months in those sports. NRL players have traditionally returned to play earlier than these figures, however the results in the NFL & NBA certainly indicate that this is a serious injury.
