What is An Achilles Tendon Avulsion?

Writer's picture: Steven KentSteven Kent

Achilles tendon avulsions or Achilles Sleeve Avulsions are rare but debilitating injuries. The X-ray signs are often missed as the injury often pulls a small area of bone off the calcaneus (heel bone). This video explains what an Achilles tendon avulsion is and how it looks on imaging. The injury requires surgery & is often preceded by the patient experiencing pain at the insertion of the Achilles tendon, otherwise known as Insertional Achilles Tendonitis or Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy. View our video below to gain a better understanding of what Achilles tendon avulsions look like.
